Dr Kartini Farah Rahim is Vice-President of Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia (PEKA). She gives talks and writes about plastic pollution, recycling and the protection of Malaysia’s forests and wildlife.

Dr Kartini gives talks to schools, universities and local organisations on deforestation, pollution and biodiversity loss. She also comments publicly on environmental policy, including Selangor’s plans to cut single-use plastics.
What she campaigns for
- Less single-use plastic. A permanent, minister-led task force and an enforceable national framework to reduce Malaysia’s estimated 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes of plastic waste a day.
- Waste separation at source. Household sorting and recycling, following models such as South Korea’s, rather than relying on incineration.
- Urban forests. Protecting green areas such as Bukit Gasing for residents and wildlife.
- Everyday habits. Reusable bottles and containers, no plastic cutlery or straws, and support for restaurants that accept customers’ own containers.
